Stand In Stone
Lyrics
Quiet, but wasn’t shy Just never knew what to say An honest child who couldn’t lie Go outside and play Thoughts bigger than my age Couldn’t look ‘em in the eye Wrapped ‘em up inside a cage Lest they thought I was wise I was wise I was wise When I was a child I held down voices In my head They tell me I’m alone I’m alone Oh dad, where is my home? Where do I find peace? Am I the only one I need to please? I need to please? When I was a child I held down voices In my head They tell me I’m alone Now I’m older I see choices Stand in stone Don’t wait to be unafraid Unafraid So I see it clear, I say to you There’s so much time for us to use Can’t go back and you can’t undo Speak out loud Speak out loud Be here now When I was a child I held down voices In my head They tell me I’m alone Now I’m older I see choices Stand in stone Don’t wait to be unafraid Unafraid When I was a child I held down voices In my head They tell me I’m alone Now I’m older I see choices Stand in Stone Don’t wait to be unafraid Unafraid
The Story
I had a fantastic childhood full of neighborhood friends, bike rides, and adventures in the woods. It was before cell phones, so we had to entertain ourselves.
I knew I was more thoughtful than the average kid, so I chose to listen a lot before I chimed in and made myself know.
As I grew older I learned the value of confidently holding to my own beliefs and speaking them clearly with humility, regardless of the current trends.
What would you allow yourself to do if you weren't worried about how people would respond?
